Preparing for Take-Off

Kamala:

It’s Sunday evening and tomorrow morning myself, Kamala, and Linda will be flying to Tokyo to meet Lori at Narita Airport. As you can imagine, tough decisions are being made about what to pack.

Linda can’t decide which pants to wear. “These have holes in them, but they’re more comfortable, and they’re for old people, so they sit up higher,” she says, while modeling a pair of bootleg “blues jeans” around the family room. She’s concerned that she’ll look too shabby for the Japanese.

“I think we’ll look shabby to the Japanese no matter what,” I say, to which Linda grumbles in agreement, and sits down in the red armchair to think about it for a while. Eventually she will decide to hem some grey pants that are apparently suitable for any occasion.

I have decided to bring no jackets, aside from a raincoat, so I’m hoping it doesn’t get too cold. I’m also excited to try out my new Away suitcase. It’s my first time with hardshell luggage, but it’s a carry-on size, pretty lightweight, and also includes a phone charger, which I’ve been charging for a few hours, in case our electronics need a boost on the go.

All that’s left now is to eat the fish that Linda is frying up and prep our media/snacks for the long plane ride!
